During my absence from school 5/3 through 5/10, the students continued working with their classmates on the regular 8th grade curriculum and prepared for the NWEA assessments.
We are currently working on chapter 10-quadratic and exponential functions.
Thursday, 5/11: review of solving quadratics by graphing
Friday, 5/12: completing the square
Monday, 5/15: quadratic formula
Tuesday, 5/16 and Wednesday, 5/17: exponential functions
Thursday, 5/18 and Friday, 5/19: growth and decay
Best laid plans...
We are a bit behind schedule. Here is a revised schedule:
Monday: complete the test
Tuesday: no class-Robert Crown visit
Wednesday: independently begin lesson 10-1 (graphing quadratic functions)
Thursday: continue with lesson 10-1
Friday: begin lesson 10-2 (solving quadratic equations by graphing)
Spring Break is over, and it is time to hit the ground running in preparation for the Exit Exam!
Monday: review 9-1 through 9-6
Tuesday: practice test
Wednesday: chapter test part 1
Thursday: chapter test part 2
Friday: Begin chapter 10 on quadratic and exponential functions
We continue working to factor trinomials. It is challenging, but most gratifying when we have success. We will test on Chapter 9 before our Spring Break.
Monday: factors and greatest common factors
Tuesday: factoring using the distributive property
Wednesday: factoring trinomials
Thursday: factoring trinomials
Friday: factoring differences of squares
We will have disruptions to class because of the city Science Fair, but we should still complete the polynomial chapter and begin testing by the end of the week.
Next up: factoring (chapter 9)
We did not make the progress I intended, so here are the plans for this week:
Monday: scientific notation
Wednesday: adding and subtracting polynomials
Thursday: multiplying a polynomials by a monomial
Friday: multiplying polynomials
We continue with our work on polynomials. This chapter includes multiplying and dividing polynomials, scientific notation, adding and subtracting polynomials, multiplying monomials, and special products.
This week we will divide monomials, express numbers in scientific notation, find the degree of a polynomials, and add and subtract polynomials.
We are progressing quite nicely in the algebra class!! This week we wrap up the chapter on solving systems of equations/inequalities and move on to a unit on polynomials and nonlinear functions-hooray!
Monday: no school
Tuesday: review/begin chapter 7 post test
Wednesday: complete chapter 7 post test
Thursday: multiplying monomials
Friday: dividing monomials
We will be finishing the 7th chapter next week and will test at the beginning of the following week. As you saw on report cards, the students are making FANTASTIC progress in algebra!
Monday: wrap of up solving systems of equations using best method (substitution, elimination with +/-, and elimination with */
Tuesday: writing and solving systems of equations
Wednesday: writing and solving systems of equations continued (very important for preparing for the Exit Exam)
Thursday: graphing systems of inequalities
Friday: No class-dance PARTAY
Up next: polynomials
